What kind of care and maintenance do I need on granite countertops? Do I need special cleaners? For everyday cleaning of your new granite countertops, we recommend using mild soap and water. Once a week, we recommend using a product by StoneTech Professional, Inc. called Revitalizer™ Stone & Tile Cleaner and Protector.
For more info on this product visit: http://www.stonetechpro.com/products/clean/rv/
The stone cleaner and protector does not contain any harsh ingredients, therefore it is safe to use on food handling surfaces.
To apply the cleaner, you simply wipe off any loose debris existing on the surface of the granite countertop. Spray the cleaner, and wipe off with a soft absorbent cloth. AVOID the use of products containing Ammonia, Bleach, or anything Acidic, for they could eventually strip the protective sealer, leaving the granite countertop vulnerable to staining. Back To Top
Can my countertops be installed the same day as templates?
Unfortunately not. The process involves making the template, bringing it back to the facility to fabricate, and then scheduling an appointment for countertop installation. Typically The Granite Shop has a lead time to template from 2 to 4 weeks. After the template, we fabricate and install within 5 – 7 working days. For better answers on lead time, feel free to give us a call at (928) 776-1771.
Why does my countertop have a seam? I didn't want one. The reason for this would be due to the size or configuration of your countertop did not allow it to fit on a single run of the slab you have chosen, i.e., your longest stretch of countertop is 12' but the slab is only 10' in length. This would result in a seam being placed in the countertop. There are other alterations that could involve putting a seam in a countertop. As always, we strive to fabricate our kitchens with the least amount of seams as possible, if any at all. Back To Top
Can I do a custom edge on my countertops?
We offer many edge details.
Do I need to remove my existing countertops before you make templates?
For best results, existing countertops must be removed before we come to template your kitchen. This ensures the most accurate template for your kitchen. The Granite Shop is in the process of utilizing a lazer machine which allows us to template your kitchen without removing your existing countertops until the day of installation of your new countertops.
Do all my cabinets need to be installed in order to make templates? Yes. All cabinet bases, i.e., where granite will be installed, have to be properly installed and leveled before we come to make a template. Back To Top
What needs to be on site when you come to do the template?
We require that the sink, faucet, cook-top, stove, and/or all appliances that will affect the measurement of the countertop be ON SITE (at your home) when we come to do a template. Without these, we will not be able to properly template your kitchen. If you have questions on any of these topics, please do not hesitate to call our office and we will be able to answer your questions in full detail.
NOTE: Customers that have Farmer Sinks. These sinks must be installed prior to us coming to make the template for your kitchen. Back To Top
Is it true that granite countertops are bacteria resistant?
Yes, it is! A recent study by the Hospitality Institute of Technology and Management, a St. Paul Minnesota-based organization that develops educational materials and research for the retail food industry, proved it. The study measured the bacteria resistance capacity of six common countertop materials. Granite and stainless steel performed significantly better than four other countertop choices. If you are concerned about bacterial contamination of your kitchen countertops, granite is the way to go.

What is Revitalizer? Revitalizer is a daily cleaner that will safely and effectively clean and protect natural stone, masonry, ceramic tile, and porcelain tile. Revitalizer leaves behind a protective seal that helps to resist future staining and extend the life of your sealer. It also contains an antimicrobial product protection, which will resist the growth of mold, mildew, and fungus. This cleaner requires no rinsing and has a fresh scent.

How do I pick out my material for my countertops? The Granite Shop works with only the best suppliers and distributors of natural stone and engineered quartz products. With these suppliers and/or in-house staff, we can assist you every step of the way, from selecting appropriate material based on your decorating scheme, to simply giving advice on design. Feel free to give us a call to set up an appointment.
What is the difference between "honed" and "polished" granite? "Honed" and "Polished" refer to the finish of the granite. The finish of honed granite will range from flat to a low-sheen gloss, which gives the stone a softer look. Polished granite refers to the glossy, highly reflective appearance, giving it a smooth, sleek look.

Can I use my granite countertop as a cutting board? We don’t advise cutting on granite, although it won’t hurt your countertops. Since the granite is harder than metal, you will end up with a very dull knife!

How do I get started? The first step is to call The Granite Shop of Northern Arizona and set up an appointment with us. Our representative (often the owner, Dee Spitler) will visit the job site to take measurements and determine the price. Once our bid is accepted, a material deposit is paid. We will advise as to how much material is needed (ex. number of slabs of granite). We can supply a list of suppliers that you can visit to make your material selection. Once the material is chosen, we coordinate getting the material from the supplier to our site for fabrication, then to the job site for installation.
For natural stone slab countertops, we will process a work order and contact you within 24 hours to schedule an appointment to make a detailed template of your countertop. Installation is typically completed within 5-7 working days of making the template. It may be necessary to hire specialists for items such as plumbing and electrical. If a tear-out of existing materials is necessary, that will be done during the installation or template phase. Installation may take 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of the job.
